Astana, May 11, 2018. Today, General Prosecutor Kairat Kozhamzharov met the delegates of the European Parliament headed by Iveta Grigule, Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee "Republic of Kazakhstan-European Union".
Foreign colleagues are informed about the role and functions of the supervisory authority, the reforms of the criminal and criminal- procedural legislation in the country.
K. Kozhamzharov spoke about the institutes of the investigating judge introduced by the best practices of European countries, the secret investigative actions, conciliation and order production, the reduction of the terms of detention, the expansion of the use of alternative measures of restraint and punishment, and the increase in the adversarial nature of the parties in the criminal process.
The delegates also presented the activities of the Center for Law Enforcement Services of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The experience of Kazakhstan in the humanization of criminal policy, which helped improve the country's position in the world prison rating from the 3rd to the 73rd level, and measures to modernize the procedural legislation, evoked increased interest of the guests.
Iveta Grigule and her colleagues positively noted the efforts of the Kazakhstan Prosecutor's office in reducing the repressiveness and resocialization of convicts.
"The Prosecutor General's Office is undoubtedly the main stone of the rule of law. It has all the responsibility for observing and protecting the rights of citizens", she said.
In addition, during the meeting, information on the criminal activities of a number of persons hiding from Kazakhstan's justice in Europe, including Ablyazov and his accomplices, the family of the Khrapunovs, the Riskaliev brothers, Taizhanov, etc., was brought to the attention of the delegates of the European Parliament.
During the discussion, both sides gave a critical assessment of Ablyazov's criminal actions and his attempts to destabilize the public situation in the country.
