Press Release on signing of Memorandum of Cooperation with UN Women in Kazakhstan (Astana, October 21, 2016)

Today, the Prosecutor General’s Office hosted a meeting of Zhakip Assanov with UN Women Representative in Kazakhstan Elaine Conkievich.

E. Conkievich is an expert in human rights and rule of law, democratic institution building, gender mainstreaming, and has Master Degree in International Relations.

At the meeting, the Prosecutor General noted the warm and trustworthy relations they have had with the UN Women for a long time. In Kazakhstan, the UN Women takes an active part in activities on preventing violence against women, supporting victims of violence and other topical issues.

The UN Women provides advisory and expert support to the Prosecutor General’s Office in Project “Kazakhstan without Domestic Violence”, holds different events in the regions.

In order to further strengthen cooperation, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the UN Women signed a Memorandum identifying key directions and forms of cooperation in protecting and ensuring the rights of women and gender equality. The sides paid particular attention to the elimination of different forms of violence against women, prevention of domestic offences.

In conclusion, Zhakip Assanov noted that the Memorandum would help to bring cooperation to a new level and facilitate effective implementation of the identified goals
