Press release on a meeting of the Prosecutor General and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain (Astana, October 8, 2015)

There were held the meeting of the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbaev and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain Tobias Ellwood and the Liaison and Regional Coordinating Officer of the National Criminal Agency of Great Britain in Central Asia Frederick Hellon.

 In the course of the meeting, the parties noted the high level of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Great Britain, discussed the prospects of further cooperation within the framework of previously-signed agreements of cooperation.

The parties exchanged their views on the issues related to the rule of law and regional security. They noted in particular the importance of further consolidation of common efforts to combat transnational organized crime, terrorism and extremism. The parties agreed to intensify bilateral contacts aimed to enhance the legal-contractual field, the exchange of experience in sphere of struggle against cybercrime and illegal trafficking of drugs. 

Also proposed to actively develop forms of cooperation aimed at the expansion of the contractual legal framework, providing legal assistance in criminal matters, the practical implementation of the ideas which started in the bilateral agreements.

There were noted the importance of enhancing legal cooperation in the exchange of information, experience and experts. In this regard, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan has expressed interest in the study of the British experience in the field of combating organized crime, drug trafficking, terrorism and extremism.

A.Daulbaev told the guests about the main directions of supervisory and human rights activities of Kazakh prosecutor's office, the opening of the Law Enforcement Academy under the General Prosecutor's Office.

T.Ellwood thanked for the meeting and expressed the hope that the cooperation between the two countries would steadily develop and be packed with new substance.
