Today the Prosecutor General Mr. Askhat Daulbayev has held a meeting with the acting Director of the Middle East Regional office of US Drug Enforcement Administration Donald H. Barnes, Jr.

The meeting participants exchanged with their views on a wide range of issues on bilateral cooperation, primarily in the area of combating illicit drug trafficking.

Mr. Askhat Daulbayev noted that combating drug abuse and trafficking is one of the priority directions of the activities of Kazakhstan’s authorized state bodies, especially taking into account the geopolitical position of the country. He told about the work on suppression of offences in this sphere, the interaction with the competent authorities of the bordering countries on combating drug-related crime. In this regard, he expressed readiness to develop mutually beneficial cooperation, intelligence-sharing and study of the experience of the US in this sphere.

The parties emphasized the importance of joint efforts in combating transnational organized drug crime, use of the capacities of the Administration in identifying the channels of drugs supply and transit, training to the advanced methods and techniques of investigation of similar crimes.

Special attention was paid to the mechanisms of controlling of financial flows, identification of illegally obtained income from the sale of drugs, which would be directed on financing of various extremist and terrorist organizations.
