The 13th meeting of the EU–Kazakhstan PCA Subcommittee on Justice and Home Affairs was held in the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan today.
The event was attended by the representatives of the state bodies of Kazakhstan, the delegation of the European Union, the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan, as well as the heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of European countries.
During the meeting the sides exchanged the views on topical issues of international cooperation in the judicial sphere between Kazakhstan and the European Union as well as the issues of strengthening practical cooperation in the exchange of experiences between the Central Asia and European countries.
Opening the meeting, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Iogan Merkel noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union is developing dynamically and steadily, including the legal field. Joint work in the framework of the Strategy of partnership between the European Union and the countries of Central Asia has a positive impact on bilateral cooperation, in particular in the field of improving the legal and judicial systems, the rule of law and human rights.
The main topics of the meeting agenda were the issues of strengthening the rule of law, governance and reform of the judiciary, migration and border management, combating drug trafficking, money laundering, corruption and terrorism.
The issues of implementation of the EU Rule of Law Initiative for Central Asia, EU migration and border management Programme in Central Asia, management of legal migration, protection of migrants' rights were also been touched upon relevant EU initiatives on the rule of law in Central Asia program in the field of migration and border management in Central Asia, the movement of citizens between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union, the protection of migrants' rights. They discussed the measures taken by the European Commission and Kazakhstan in the fight against drug trafficking.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the results of the meeting and with exchanging of views, they noted the need for further deepening and expansion of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
