Press release about the meeting of Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan with Attorney General of Malaysia (May 24, 2016, Astana)

Today Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Zhakip Assanov with Attorney General of Malaysia Mr. Mohamed Apandi bin Ali.

Greeting his Malaysian counterpart on Kazakhstan land, Mr. Zh. Assanov noted friendly and constructive nature of bilateral relations in legal sphere.

During negotiations Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan informed about main directions of the activities of prosecution authorities of Kazakhstan, as well as about expanding and strengthening of contractual-legal base.

Interlocuters discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on topical problems of international agenda.

Heads of authorities of two countries underlined the relevance of joint efforts in the frame of countering terrorism, ensuring national and international security, having emphasized the potential of bilateral legal cooperation.

The issues of conclusion of interstate treaties on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters were considered during the talks.

In conclusion of meeting the sides signed the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Attorney General’s Office of Malaysia. Signing of this document will give new impetus to the development of bilateral interaction and exchange of information and best practices in legal sphere. 

Experts of two countries are developing the texts of international treaties on extradition and on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

The sides noted with content the established level of interactions between competent authorities of Kazakhstan and Malaysia in combatting crime, ensuring legality and rule of law, and expressed readiness to expand contractual legal base.
