General Prosecutor's Office discussed readiness of services to conduct chemical castration procedure - 405887472

Astana, January 9, 2018. Today, the General Prosecutor's Office held an inter-institutional meeting on the application of legislative amendments on the conduct of chemical castration and the readiness of the services of the penal system and public health services to conduct this procedure.

The representatives of the Supreme Court, Ministries of Health, Internal Affairs including the Committee of the Penitentiary System as well as the employees of the central office of the General Prosecutor's Office.

Recall that the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the Protection of the Child’s Rights" entered into force on January 1, 2018.

Chemical castration will be conducted only by a court decision against persons found to be susceptible to crimes against the sexual inviolability of juveniles upon a forensic psychiatric examination expertize.

The injections with androgenic drugs will be done to persons at the place of deprivation of freedom and to convicted of other types of punishment they will be done in health care organizations.

The representatives of state bodies confirmed their readiness to conduct this procedure.

Following the meeting, a number of recommendations were adopted.
