Within the framework the visit to the United States of America the Prosecutor General Mr. AskhatDaulbayev held meetings with the Counselor of the US Department of State Mr. Thomas Shannon and the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency Ms. Michele Leonhart.
During the negotiations with the Counselor of the US Department of State Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan told about the main directions of activities of the Kazakhstani prosecution offices on ensuring law and order, protection of human rights and freedoms.
It was also noted that the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan actively cooperates with US competent authorities, on principle of reciprocity, in the field of combating crime, international legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition.
The parties exchanged their views concerning further interaction between two countries within combating global challenges and threats of the modern world. They considered the issues related to strengthening cooperation in combating extremism and terrorism, protecting human rights, and also about the upcoming Summit, which is expected to be a unique opportunity to identify common ground and to develop joint measures to combat violent extremism.
A special topic of conversation was the issue of expanding and strengthening the contractual framework. The parties noted that conclusion of the Treaty between two countries on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, which is on the final stage of its preparation for the signature, will give additional impetus to the development of legal cooperation between Kazakhstan and the USA.
During the meeting with the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency there were discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in fight against drug trafficking, there were also noted the results of the joint operations to identify channels of supply and transit of drugs.
Mr. A.Daulbayev told about the measures taken to combat drug trafficking in the framework of implementation of the State Program on fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking, and he also emphasized the importance of conducting workshops and trainings for Kazakhstani law enforcement and special services staff in the DEA Academy, in Quantico.
The interlocutors stressed their readiness to further consolidation of efforts in combating transnational drug-related crimes, operative exchange of information, experience as well as legislation in this area.
